Loving you Right from the start

Two years ago, your Dad and I have always been the kind who are daunted by the thought of little ones- screaming brats of the kind that annoy us. On flights, we never forget to make sure that our seats are assigned away from the emergency door where the baby bassinets are close. And everytime I see a common supermarket/ toyrus scenerio where children can be at their most demanding, I always wonder to myself how can a pint sized person wield such power over adults? Then I tell myself silently that this is Not going to happen to me. If I ever have a kid.

Guess these words are coming back to haunt me. I have been really concern about your growing temper and unwillingness to share recently. Well meaning friends told me that you are still young to understand the value of sharing and temper tantrums are a normal aspect of a toddler's life as you become aware that you have a choice about whether or not you comply with me. Seems like you toddlers learn from a very young age on how to manipulate and are quick to sum up a situation and use it to your own advantage.

Recently, you will whine and shriek when you dont get what you want or when others touch your toys. It is scary looking at you throwing tantrums. I feel a sense of frustration and helplessness. You are a little bit too young to be discipline but I find myself on the receiving end of disapproving looks from other adults. Am I becoming one of the innumerable mums today that are living in fear of their toddlers?, Afraid to incur their children's wrath, at the mercy of their tantrums, whining and wacky behaviour?

I used to give in to your every whim because you were so little and wouldnt understand. But now I think it is time to seriously look into my parenting plan and exercise authority. I have long made up my mind that you are not going to grow up as a pampered child. I dont want to breed a kid who doesnt know that the word 'no' means.

It is not going to be easy for me. I have the weakness for over indulging in you. This is probably due to the guilt for letting you fall sick and went through the ordeal when you were a newborn. And I have the fear that you will be deprieved if you dont get your way. So bear with me, Marsh. I have never been a parent before. I didnt slip into this role as naturally as I thought I would. I am trying my best.

So for all the firm 'No's that you will be hearing often from now on, all the rules and boundaries, time-outs, and naughty corners. I hope you will understand when time to come that I love you and I believe in teaching you good manners and little patience early in life and hopefully you wont become obnoxious or demanding as you get older.

I hope to love you RIGHT from the start.

You are my Teddy Bear

I love these pictures taken just before your bedtime. It is snuggly time for you with your teddy bear!

Pat Pat Pat- My teddy Bear

You want to hold my bear?

Sweet Dreams, Marsh!

Nite Nite Mummy!
I cant sleep without my teddy!

Polliwogs Yet Again

31st August 2009

To celebrate you turning 13 months, I brought you to Polliwogs again. Haha... Actually, we had a playdate with your friends from Kindermusik. But two of them could not make it last minute. So we had fun with Trudy and Auntie Lina again.

Blue balls this time?
I want to try the slide this time. Is it ok, mummy?

Ok, let me try to go up the slide.

I am so tired!
You were so tired after all the fun and were resting on the sofa when we got home. But you were happy. That is the bottom line!

Polliwogs Again

11th August 2009

This is our second time to Polliwogs. This was one of the days when I feel bored and I have to get out of the house. Life is immeasurably richer due to my decision to stay home and take care of you. However, as there are hours of sheer bliss, there are also moments of utter exasperation and, dare I say, boredom. I needed a time-out badly today so off we go to polliwogs. I was thinking of going to the Airport for a good latte and a good book initially since Auntie Lina and Trudy cant make it that day. But I changed my mind to go Polliwogs instead. You should be having Fun. We dont need two bored persons here.

What happened to the purple balls?
You love crawling through the tunnels.

London Bridge is falling down, falling down, falling down.

Hey, I found these cute little balls!

First Time to Polliwogs

7th July 2009

This is really an old outstanding post. Your first time to Polliwogs with Trudy when you girls were 11 months old. The balls at the ballpit were purple then.

Hi Trudy!

We are having Fun, arent we?

Hmmmm... purple balls.
This is so fun, Mom! Can we come again?

FriendsGather

I brought you to attend an old friends' gathering with Aunty Gladys, Uncle Andrew and Uncle Clarence at Goodwood Park Hotel. You were busy walking around exploring the place. After your milk, like a little angel you took your nap and slept amid chaos and left me plenty of time to eat and chat. Uncle Andrew has not seen you for a while but as usual you let him carry you with no second thoughts.
We were supposed to have English Afternoon Tea but mistakenly went into the wrong restaurant for the Asian High tea instead. ANyway we were having so much fun and laughter, and I really want to have the English High Tea (craving for the chocolate fondue!) so we make plans to come back again this Friday. HeeHee.

Where is our table, mummy? Not here.
Not there?

Where exactly is our table, Mum? I am tired walking.
Both of us enjoying ourselves.

Polliwogs

14th September 2009 Monday

Today we had a playdate with your friends from Kindermusik at the much raved about Polliwogs. This is your fourth time here but I have always forgotten to blog about it. I have always like this place (esp when the place is not crowded) because it is so close to the sea and the sand. The last 2 times when we were here with Auntie Lina and Trudy, we always bring you girls for a stroll by the beach after that. Anyway, so happy that Claire and Julius joined you and Trudy today. YOu kids had a ball of time inside the ballpit while we mummies gathered inside and chatted as well.

We reached there early so while waiting for your friends, you drank your milk on the small little sofa. SO cute!

Roaming around while waiting for your friends.
This is the only group picture we took that day. And I absentmindedly turned on the nightshot button that resulted in an exposed picture. Arrghhhh....

i always look forward to these playdates because the mummies are great and it is so fun to see these babies so close to age, get up to around each other. It was all in good fun and mostly u kids engaged in parallel play, though i am sure you guys must be enjoying each other's company. I certainly do. I am already looking forward to our next outing to the zoo!
